And here I shall be for now. After years of knowing of this site's existence, I have finally started using it.
I start off by mentioning a challenge posed to me by my friend
. The challenge is to take and upload one photo a day for 100 days. Piece of cake, right? Caaaake.... For the record, I will be doing a bit of traveling in the next 100 days, and I will be uploading multiples on certain days when I know in advance that internet access won't be possible. So I've thrown the chicken foot down, and accept the challenge.
I have been interested in photography for a long time, but have little to show for myself.
The only reason I have work decent enough to show on here is because of my challenge-proposing friend. I, being a monetarily challenged college student, have been longing for an SLR for a few years, but incapable of saving for one when tuition is my priority. I got my first digital camera, a Kodak DX4530 point and shoot, in 2002/2003. Slightly bulky 5 Megapixel thing. I eventually upgraded when ye olde Kodak died in March 2009 (conveniently a few days before my birthday). No, not to the Nikon D700 I had my eager eyes on; I settled for a cheap Canon Powershot SD790is.
Out of the blue two months ago, I reconnected with a friend I hadn't seen much of in almost a year. Photography came up in conversation, and I'm sure I threw in a "I admire your work a lot" comment somewhere....
Many caveats were given. I was told it was broken, chewed up memory cards for breakfast, and was very much a seething, angry beast on it's last legs. Long story short, by some magical piece of coercion, I was given his Nikon D70 DSLR not long after that conversation. He had recently upgraded to a Canon Rebel XTi, and was almost as if he was happy to remove the D70 from his home.
Nonetheless, I went home that day with a new camera. It hadn't even been in the house 5 minutes before I took a fierce cleaning to it. When I was done having my way with it, it looked... well not brand new, but close. I was in love. Sure, it has its quirks and I was warned about them... but it's a great piece of machinery and I'm still so incredibly excited I have it! And Adrian, it works fantastically, so there.
