So I accepted a challenge of taking 100 photos in 100 days, and thus far, I have largely failed at it for two reasons.

1.) The internet connection at my house won't allow me to submit art on dA. Not entirely sure why.. So I either have to do it at school or a friend's house. This is highly inconvenient!

2.) My newly inherited Nikon D70, which I have grown quite fond of in the last 2 months, has more or less died. So that's pretty much it for photography.
I happened to get caught in a light rain at the beach 4-5 days ago, and I thought my battery had just died. I went home and charged it to find out the battery had a full charge.  Upon sticking it back in the camera and turning it on, I discovered a shutter error, and after shooting 3 to 4 pictures, it would die. Yay for having to take the battery out every couple of shots. Then, two days ago, the memory card wouldn't read. It has done this before in the past, and I'd have to open the camera slot, eject the card, and push it back in for it to work. Nope, this time it decided to not read at all for 2 days.

Lo and behold, after having warm dry air blow on it for most of the night, my camera decided to sit down and have a chat with the card. They have apparently worked out their differences for now. There is still an electrical malfunction in it somewhere... the shutter won't open completely for 1/5 of the shots, the mirror gets stuck in lock up when the camera decides to shut off, and the shutter doesn't sound normal.. it sounds weak and lethargic. I'm hoping after another few days of being dried out, things will be back to normal.

This camera was given to me, and I am extremely fortunate to have it. If it weren't for a friend who got a new camera, I wouldn't be able to really enjoy photography at all, since I don't even have the money to invest in a used SLR. If this camera dies, I won't be able to replace it for a long time.

I don't want to say 'Nighty night Nikon'  :'(

So Here I Am...

3 min read
And here I shall be for now.
After years of knowing of this site's existence, I have finally started using it.

I start off by mentioning a challenge posed to me by my friend :iconfantastree:. The challenge is to take and upload one photo a day for 100 days. Piece of cake, right? Caaaake.... For the record, I will be doing a bit of traveling in the next 100 days, and I will be uploading multiples on certain days when I know in advance that internet access won't be possible. So I've thrown the chicken foot down, and accept the challenge.

I have been interested in photography for a long time, but have little to show for myself.
The only reason I have work decent enough to show on here is because of my challenge-proposing friend. I, being a monetarily challenged college student, have been longing for an SLR for a few years, but incapable of saving for one when tuition is my priority. I got my first digital camera, a Kodak DX4530 point and shoot, in 2002/2003.  Slightly bulky 5 Megapixel thing.  I eventually upgraded when ye olde Kodak died in March 2009 (conveniently a few days before my birthday). No, not to the Nikon D700 I had my eager eyes on; I settled for a cheap Canon Powershot SD790is.

Out of the blue two months ago, I reconnected with a friend I hadn't seen much of in almost a year. Photography came up in conversation, and I'm sure I threw in a "I admire your work a lot" comment somewhere....
Many caveats were given. I was told it was broken, chewed up memory cards for breakfast, and was very much a seething, angry beast on it's last legs. Long story short, by some magical piece of coercion, I was given his Nikon D70 DSLR not long after that conversation. He had recently upgraded to a Canon Rebel XTi, and was almost as if he was happy to remove the D70 from his home.

Nonetheless, I went home that day with a new camera. It hadn't even been in the house 5 minutes before I took a fierce cleaning to it. When I was done having my way with it, it looked... well not brand new, but close. I was in love. Sure, it has its quirks and I was warned about them... but it's a great piece of machinery and I'm still so incredibly excited I have it! And Adrian, it works fantastically, so there. :p
